02 . InJoy
Choreography: Justin Rapaport
Music Composed By: Patrick Boyle
Injoy, a play on words. What do we enjoy externally versus internally? What is manufactured from the outside-in and what is nurtured from the inside-out? We receive external validation when our performance is enjoyed by the viewer, but does that align with our internal joys and expectations, or Injoyment? Do you put up a front, a mask, a different version of yourself to appease others or are you truly open to show your vulnerable, authentic self when all eyes are on you?
Justin Rapaport (he/him) is a freelance artist based in Chicago, where he enjoys collaborating and creating with like-minded artists and individuals. Most recently, Justin worked with Zoe|Juniper in The Other Shore in Seattle, and Alejandro Cerrudo and Artists in It Starts Now at the Harris Theater in Chicago. He is a former member of Ballet BC, under the directorship of Emily Molnar and Medhi Walerski, where for 6 years, he had the opportunity to perform various solos and lead roles by choreographers such as Crystal Pite, William Forsythe, Aszure Barton, Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal. Justin received his formal training at New World School of the Arts, followed by The Juilliard School, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts. During his training, Justin had the opportunity to perform works by Jiří Kylián, Twyla Tharp, Kyle Abraham, Martha Graham and Camille A. Brown. He also had the opportunity to perform as a guest artist with his classmates with BRIAN BROOKS/MOVING COMPANY and Kate Weare Company during his time at Juilliard.
